Our pride is our family. Our school is also a family in many ways. The lion is the symbol of James Lyng. Like a pride of lions, we work together and have each other’s backs. We take pride in ourselves and our creations.
Up Next Recordings, James Lyng High School’s student-run record label, returns with a third collection of music written and recorded by James Lyng students, entitled “The Pride”. The collection includes rap songs, instrumental hip hop, electronic music compositions and songs written and performed by the school’s own rock bands. The songs on the mixtape were recorded at James Lyng’s own Up Next recording studio. In 2015, the school officially became an urban arts high school, incorporating hip hop, street art, street dance and music into many subject areas, as well as offering intensive small group and individualized instruction in the popular arts. Special thanks to Koffi, CeasRock, Alex Rand, Bronwen Low and the D.I.S.E. team at McGill, Mr. Cauchi and all the staff at James Lyng. “1000” and “Warm Up” were written and recorded by Huncho Party (Camden & Cedric) under the supervision of CeasRock. “What the Light Has Shown” and “Hapless Blues” were written and performed by the James Lyng Honour Band (Ashley, Nora, Eli, William, Mr. Gage & Mr. Matt) with additional writing support from Juliet. They were recorded by Alex Rand, Mr. Gage & the 15 plus class. “I Don’t Know Why” was written and performed by the Sec 5 music class (James, William, Shaquille, Allen, Lou, David & Mr. Gage) under the supervision of Mr. Gage, and was recorded by Alex Rand, Mr. Gage & the 15 plus class.
